This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep it and your rights.
2. What we collect
Depending on how you use BarReady, we may collect:
- Account data: email address, name or display name, account identifiers and settings.
- Learning data: questions attempted, answers, scores, progress, bookmarks, notes and study activity.
- Payment and subscription data: plan, transaction details, subscription status and payment-provider identifiers. Where card details are processed directly by a payment provider, BarReady does not store your full card number.
- Communications: support requests, complaints, feedback and other messages you send us.
- Technical data: IP address, browser and device information, login activity, error logs and security information.
- Cookie and local-storage data: used for authentication, security, preferences and, where you consent, analytics.
We collect this information directly from you, automatically when you use BarReady, and from service providers such as payment and authentication providers.
3. How and why we use your data
We use personal data to:
- create and manage your Account;
- provide the question bank and save your progress;
- calculate scores and study statistics;
- process payments, subscriptions, cancellations and refunds;
- provide customer support;
- operate, secure and troubleshoot BarReady;
- detect fraud, misuse, scraping or account sharing;
- improve the Service; and
- comply with legal, tax and accounting obligations.
Our lawful bases under UK data protection law include:
- contract, where processing is necessary to provide BarReady or a paid Subscription;
- legitimate interests, where necessary to operate, secure and improve the Service;
- legal obligation, where we must process information to comply with the law; and
- consent, where required for optional cookies, analytics or marketing.
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we consider whether our interests are balanced against your rights.
4. Sharing your data
We do not sell your personal data.
We use third-party service providers to help us operate BarReady. These include:
- Supabase, which we use for database, authentication and related backend services;
- Vercel, which we use to host and deliver the BarReady website and application; and
- Stripe, which we use to process payments, subscriptions, refunds and related billing information.
We may also use other providers for services such as email delivery, customer support, security, error monitoring, analytics, and legal or accounting support.
These providers may process personal data on our behalf or, in some cases, act as independent controllers for particular processing activities.
We may also disclose personal data where required by law, where reasonably necessary to investigate fraud, misuse or security incidents, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, restructuring or sale of all or part of our business.
You can contact support@barready.uk for more information about the providers we use or the safeguards that apply to international transfers.
5. How long we keep your data
We keep personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary.
Account and learning data is generally retained while your Account is active and may be deleted or anonymised after Account deletion, subject to legal obligations and limited backup retention.
Payment, tax and accounting records may be retained for the period required by law. Support, security and technical records may be retained for a reasonable period where necessary to deal with disputes, security or legal obligations.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies, local storage and similar technologies where necessary for authentication, security, preferences and operation of BarReady.
We may also use optional analytics or similar technologies. Where consent is required, these will not be activated unless you choose to accept them.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, although essential site functionality may then stop working.
7. Marketing
We may send marketing communications where permitted by law.
Where consent is required, we will obtain it before sending marketing messages.
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in a marketing email or by contacting support@barready.uk.
We may still send important non-marketing messages about your Account, purchases, security or the operation of BarReady.
8. Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to:
- access your personal data;
- correct inaccurate data;
- request deletion;
- restrict certain processing;
- object to processing based on legitimate interests;
- receive certain data in a portable format; and
- withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
Legal exceptions may apply.
To exercise your rights, email support@barready.uk. We may need to verify your identity.
9. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, disclosure or misuse.
No online service can be guaranteed to be completely secure, so you should also take reasonable steps to protect your Account credentials.
If you believe your Account has been compromised, contact support@barready.uk.
